Textures

I tried to use line weights and deinsity to create gradients of colour. I also discovered that dotting creates a lighter effect than using lines.

The ramp

What is the ramp:

Definitions: Inclined plane, a physical structure that is a simple machine... Wikipedia
a sloping surface connecting two levels; incline...
Dictionary.com

simple...useful? i liked the idea of the ramp being a simple machine... machine for taking people to meet each other... for leading people to a meeting place....a machine for interation... however i wanted to explore some other types of ramps for further inspiration... i.e the images below...

The images above were the ones i liked the most. i liked the architectural elements that were involved in the ramp... separating the person from specific areas but opening up and defining others. i thought i might try to use some of these elements in my design. I want to used the ramp not only as a function to take peolpe to and away from the meeting space but also to highlight the 'wall' and the journey from the inside to the outside or visa versa....

Electroliquid Aggregation

Florence Nightingale: “Apprehension, uncertainty, waiting, expectation, fear of surprise, do a patient more harm than any exertion”

Steven Hawking: “If human life were long enough to find the ultimate theory, everything would have been solved by previous generations. Nothing would be left to be discovered."

Eletroliquid Aggregation:

“The human mind will not allow us to find the ultimate theory as it is too afraid of what proceeds it.”

I am going to use the combination of the two quotes as the base for my design. I want to use the idea of the fear of the ultimate, using lighting along with floor, wall and ceiling elements to draw the player closer to ‘the ultimate’ (‘the ultimate’ maybe represented by lighting/ leading paths) but never actually being able to reach it. I also want to use the quotes separately to address the two individual meanings and to draw emphasis to these ideas within the architectural elements… i.e creating emotions such as apprehension and fear of the surprise, along with using the idea of a journey through time and the sense of discovery to experience each of the spaces.

Another idea I would like to explore is to create a serious feel to each of the labs to highlight the distinction between the in transition space and the working space. I hope to achieve this by using diffused lighting and withdrawing any type of view or specific architectural interest as to limit the possible distractions within the lab spaces.

Comments and things i need to work on... lighting, definition of quotes and the wall and the ramp... textures....

Further Ideas

Ideas in drawings

Here is a section and an axonometric that relate to my ideas. I developed the concept of the wall in the axonometric to enable me to visualise where the relationship between the wall and the spaces. I then used a section drawing to help me understand the context of the wall and the spaces and to easily doccument my ideas. Hopefully these drawings will help me to produce my model in UT2004.
